Funeral services for Jesse Mayes Birdsong, 83, retired farmer of the Prospect section, were held at 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon at Pulaski Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Raymond L. Greenway, pastor of Elkton Methodist Church. Burial took place in Prospect Cemetery. Mr. Birdsong died at 5 o’clock on Wednesday morning, July 4, at the home of his son, Gilbert Birdsong, following a long illness.
Born June 8, 1879, in Giles County, he was the son of the late Lewis Birdsong and Mattie King Birdsong. He was a member of the Methodist Church.
His wife, Mrs. Nettie Hastings Birdsong, died thirty-eight years ago.
In addition to Gilbert Birdsong, Mr. Birdsong is survived by another son, Wilson Birdsong, Elkton; four daughters, Mrs. Roy Cunningham, Prospect, Mrs. Will Boatright, Lynnville, Mrs. O. J. Hastings, Dallas, Texas, and Mrs. Joseph Roberts, Cedar City, Utah; and twenty-eight grandchildren.
