31-year-old Ethel V. Dunn was interred, per the Chico Cemetery Association Records, in the plot noted, on December 23, 1919.

"Special to the Union. Chico, Butte County, Dec. 23.—The first death as a result of smallpox in Chico for five years occurred when Mrs. J.B. Dunn of Mulberry street, 38 years of age, died this morning at one after being afflicted with the malady for ten days. It was reported by Health Officer M.H. Marshall as being the worst case of smallpox ever recorded in Butte county. Survivors are her husband. J.B. Dunn, father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. P.G. Skelly; brothers, A.G. Skelly, Everett Skelly, George Skelly, Ray Skelly and T.B. Skelly, all of Chico; sisters, Mrs. Walter Foss, Mrs. Eva Huff and Miss Nora Skelly of Chico, and Mrs. Alice Kemp of Oakland; daughters, Misses Helen and Doris Dunn. The funeral services were held this afternoon at 3 o'clock. Rev. Galen Lee Rose officiated. Interment was in Chico Cemetery." Source: Sacramento Daily Union 24 Dec 1919.
