Lavern was born in Nancy, Texas to William Albert Allen and Florance Ashby Allen on September 10, 1926. She passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2011. Lavern was a homemaker. She was known as the Queen of 42 at Pinecrest Retirement Home and was also a whiz at Canasta. She was a member of Keltys First Baptist Church and had also attended Chapel and Sunday School at Pinecrest for some time. She belonged to a weekly 88 club and, when she was able, she liked to line dance. Lavern is survived by her daughter, DeeAnna Duncan of Hockley, Texas; son, Davey Wood of Brenham; grandchildren, Tommy Wayne Bell, Jr. of Hempstead and Pattie Polk of Houston; great-grandchildren, Casey Lynn Bell, Nathan Bell, Brendon Polk and Ryan West Polk; six great-great grandchildren; brother, Bobby Allen and wife Gwen; and sisters, Billie Reed of Ft. Worth and Margie Mathis of Lufkin. Lavern was preceded in death by her husband, James Hamilton; daughter, Denise Sargeant; grandson, Michael Shane Bell; sisters, Mildred Duncan, Doris Marshall, Mary Haley and Patsy Simms. Pallbearers will be Tommy Bell, Jr., Brendan Polk, Ryan Polk, Bill Polk, Marc Sargeant and Terry Sargeant. Expressions of sympathy in Lavern's memory may be made to Brenham State School, 4001 Hwy 36 S, Brenham, Texas 77833. Services for Lavern will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, January 28, 2011 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Eddie Ballard officiating. Interment will follow in the Gann Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Gipson Funeral Home. Condolences may be offered at www.gipsonfuneralhome.com.
