Sioux City Couple Celebrates Marriage Anniversary
Sixty years ago Friday Mr. and Mrs. William Lubert of Sioux City were united in marriage. Both are now over 80 years of age and are enjoying good health. Mr. and Mr. Lubert celebrated their wedding anniversary by inviting relatives and friends to spend the evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Lubert were married in Hagenow, Mecklenburg, Germany, May 1, 1843. They sailed for this counrty May 1, 1843, and lived for several years at Cleveland, O. Later they removed to Rock Island, Ill. Mr. Lubert was a tailor by trade. The couple came to Sioux City to live in 1858, and the Luberts were among the first white families to locate there.

In describing their journey to the U.S. it is said "They spent 52 days on the water in a sailing vessel. They lived a short time at Cleveland, O., and Bellefonte, O." before the time spent in Illinois and then finally in Iowa. This is a part of a news item about their 60 year anniversity in the Dubuque Telegraph Herald, May 13, 1902, page 3.
