Sarah Johnson was born in Chester, Vermont, the daughter of Hezekiah and Ruth Bowker Johnson. She marries Ethan Brewer of Tyringham, Massachusetts. By 1820 they have moved from New England to Ohio. There, Ethan and Sarah have at least five children together, Julius Franklin, Philo C., Harriet, Henry and Ethan Jr. Before 1850 the family moves to Columbia Co., Wisconsin. Ethan Brewer Jr. dies there in 1857. Ethan Sr. dies about 1869. Sarah, his widow, moves to Iowa, where her son Philo and her daughter Harriet have moved. It is in Sioux City, Iowa, that Sarah Brewer dies in 1885, at the age of 87.

Death notice found in the Sioux City Daily Journal on Saturday, 10 October, 1885:
"Mrs Sarah Brewer who has lived on the Floyd east of town for several years was found in an unconscious condition a few rods from her house Wednesday evening by one of the neighbors. She was taken to her home, but did not rally and on Thursday evening she breathed her last. She was about 70 years old. She was buried by friends on Friday." (She was really 87 years old, living at 506 Chambers St.)

Her death record said she died "Near brige(sic), cor. of Chambers St. and Culver".
