Starke – Marian Dowling Long, 88; of Starke, FL, left to be with her Heavenly Father on Sunday, January 23, 2011, from Lakeland Regional Medical Center in Lakeland, FL. Mrs. Long was born in Fort Harlee (Hampton), FL to the late Earnest Jackson Dowling, Sr. and Cleone Moore Dowling, on February 8, 1922.
Marian was a Registered Nurse and received her training at Riverside Hospital School of Nursing in 1943. Nurse Long then worked in Starke for Dr. Mark Herlong, Dr. A. J. Barry and Dr. H. H. Adams, for whom she worked with for over 50 years. When Dr. Adams semi-retired from private practice, Nurse Long was employed by E.I. duPont Company, as their Industrial Plant Nurse. There she also worked with Dr. Peter J. Gianas, until her retirement in 1999. She thoroughly enjoyed her hobbies of antiques and collecting. She was an avid Florida Gator and Tim Tebow fan, as well as a wonderful storyteller.
Marian was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene "Gene" Milton Long, her twin sister, Helen Dowling Lee in June, 2010, and her brothers, Earnest Jackson Dowling, Jr. and William Ennis Dowling.
She is survived by her daughters; Mary Ann Pater (Dan), of Columbia, SC; Helen Jane "Sissy" Long Black (Chuck), of Lakeland, FL; her Granddaughter, Stephanie Pater of Chicago, IL and Great Grandson, Michael Mackenzie Welsh, of Chicago. She is also survived by her loving nieces and nephews, and her dear friend, Jane Adams Farnsworth, of Starke. Her precious Retrievers, Bubby and Sophia Cleone, miss her deeply.
