"John Maltby succeeded Paul and arrived in 1752. He was born in New Haven, Connecticut, in August 1727. He entered Yale and took his B.A. in 1741, and then began a study in theology. He moved to Newark, New Jersey, and continued his theological studies with the Rev. Aaron Burr who was the Presbyterian pastor of the First Church of Newark and ran a school in his parsonage. Burr became the second president of College of New Jersey (now Princeton University) in 1748 and moved to the College to his parsonage; Maltby acted as his assistant and tutor from 1749 to 1752. He was recommended in response to an application made by Christ Church to the Presbytery of New York for a minister, and he was ordained in New York."
"Maltby was married to Miss Susanna Hutchings [of Bermuda] of his congregation by John Moore of the Western Parish [Bermuda] in 1754 and was granted a license to keep a public school in April 1756; the license was renewed in April 1765 at which time he was also granted the house and benefit of the school lands in Warwick [parish, Bermuda]"
"Maltby resigned in 1768 to take a Church at Wilton (or Willistown) in South Carolina, but his wife died in there shortly after their arrival, and his own health forced him to resign and seek a northern climate. He died in September 1771 in Hanover, New Hampshire, while on a visit to his step-father, the president of Dartmouth College."
