Deceased Name: POWERS, CMDR. RICHARD M. (RET.)

August 4, 1936 to March 14, 2007 Richard Powers was born on August 4, 1936 in Duluth, Minnesota. He was raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He moved to Racine, Wisconsin where he met his future wife, Kathleen. They were married on April 27, 1957. In 1958 he graduated from Marquette University with a B.S. in Philosophy. After graduation he entered the Naval Flight School in Pensacola, Florida. Richard and Kathleen moved to Chula Vista, Ca in 1972 where they lived together for 50 years. While in the Navy, Richard flew S-2's which were anti-submarine warfare planes. He flew missions during the Bay of Pigs and the Cuban Missle Crisis. His Naval career spanned 28 years and in 1985 he retired with the rank of Commander. Richard worked for the County of San Diego with the Department of Social Services for 15 years after retiring from the Navy. He was also an active member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Chula Vista since 1972. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Edmund and Gertrude, his sister, Loretta, his daughters, Ann and Teresa, and his granddaughters, Sarah and Stephanie. He is survived in death by his wife of 50 years, Kathleen, his five children, John, Richard, David, Jean and Timothy, 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, and his brother Tom. He was our mentor, our rock, our confidant, friend and inspiration. We will miss him dearly and cherish all the wonderful memories he has left us with. Good to go, Commander! Rosary to be held on April 2nd at 7:30 p.m. with Funeral Mass to be held on April 3rd at 10 a.m. St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1120 Cuyamaca Ave., Chula Vista.
