"Mrs. Sadie V. Hoyt, 86, formerly of 130 Main Street, Oneonta, died Saturday, Dec. 18 at the Oneonta Nursing Home. She was born on July 27, 1890 in Decatur, the daughter of George D. and Elsie Belle (Bennett) Vrooman. Mrs. Hoyt had retired seven years ago due to poor health, after having worked in several private homes in Oneonta for nearly 40 years. Prior to moving to Oneonta 40 years ago, she had spent several years in Richfield Springs and had also spent some time in Utica, where she was employed in private homes. She was the cook for the Otsego County Jail in Cooperstown during the term of Sheriff Donald Rose. Most of her lifetime was spent in the Otsego County area. Mrs. Hoyt was a member of the Richfield Springs Presbyterian church, and while living in this area, she attended the Methodist churches. Surviving Mrs. Hoyt are two daughters, Mrs. Gurney (Rose Marie) Hamm, Davenport Center, and Mrs. Donald (Kathryn) Sargent, Charlotte, N.C.; a son, Frank Leonard of Bainbridge; three sisters, Mrs. Burt (Margaret) Shaul, Schuyler Lake, Mrs. Fenimore (Anna) Tilyou, Ceperley Avenue, Oneonta, and Mrs. Geraard (Edith) Shaffer, Oakland, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins ... burial in the Lakeview Cemetery, Richfield Springs."
