John Z. Bromley, 83, of 449 Second Street, Washington, died at 3:20 a.m. Tuesday, November 24, 1964 in Washington Hospital. He had been in poor health for the past year.
He was born in Jackson Center, Mercer County, November 5, 1881, a son of Charles A. and Eleanor Zahniser Bromley.
Mr. Bromley lived in Washington since childhood and was a member of the Church of the Covenant.
Mr. Bromley was associated with the machine division of the Washington Mould Machine and Foundry of Washington for 41 years until his retirement January 6, 1964.
At the time of his retirement he had been superintendent of the department for 25 years prior to being with Washington Mould he was associated with the construction and operation of the Panama Canal for 15 years with the mechanical division. He was a member of the Panama Canal Society of Chagres.
He married Mary Swingle of Washington in 1903. To this union was born one child, Opal, wife of Charles Bay, Lahaska, Penna.
October 1, 1918, he married Helen Grace Shoemaker, Columbus, O. She died October 8, 1934. Surviving this union are five children: Mrs. Helen B. McAdoo, Avella R.D. 1; Florence, wife of James Kughn, Washington; John Z. Bromley Jr., Washington; James B. Bromley, Washington R.D. 6; Elizabeth, wife of Frank Duncan, Glenshaw.
January 11, 1946 he married Laura McCombs, Washington, who survives as do two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Jane Andrews, Washington; Mrs. Kathryn Hart, Hartstown; two brothers, J. Arch Bromley, Washington; Ray V. Bromley, Franklin Farms.
One son, William M. Bromley and two brothers, William J. Bromley and C. Mont Bromley, are deceased.
