John served as a fire fighter for a total of 28 years. He served the community of Mesquite for six and a half years; then the City of Dallas for 21 and a half years. He loved people and was always ready to befriend anyone in need. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Angus and Rachel McCormick. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara McCormick of Scurry; son Mickey John McCormick of Terrell; daughter Gina Renee Lickteig and husband, Walt of Chino Hills, Calif.; sisters: Polly Jo Hansard of Mesquite and Mary Ann Cox of Wylie; stepsons: Donald Greg Lane of Amory, Miss. and Jeffrey Lynn Lane and wife Tressia also of Amory, Miss.; grandchildren: Colby McCormick of Terrell, Stacey McCormick of Allen, Rachel Lickteig and Erica Lickteig of Chino Hills, Calif., Michael Lane of Amory, Miss., Chase Smith of Columbus, Miss. and great-grandson, Foster Smith also of Columbus, Miss.
An evening of remembrance will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday Jan. 31 at Anderson-Clayton Brothers Funeral Home in Kaufman. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Scurry. Interment will immediately follow the service at Mount Olive Cemetery in Scurry. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donation be made in John's name to the Dallas Retired Firefighter's Association PO Box 814066, Dallas, TX75381-4066.
