Mr. Charles V. Kessel, 99, of Hillsdale, died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2006, at The Brier Personal Care Home, Ronceverte.

A native of Ripley, Jackson County, he was born Jan. 2, 1907, the sixth of nine children of the late Edward Dennis and Ella Corbin Kessel. He attended Marshall University. Following 27 years of service with the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company at Ripley and Huntington, he retired to Monroe County in 1969.

He was a Christian and a member of the Union Presbyterian Church, Union, where he served as an elder.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Leona Lynch Kessel.

He is survived by his son, Charles V. Kessel Jr. and wife, Ernestine, of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; grandsons, Scott Kessel and wife, Toni, and Steven Kessel and wife, Heather; stepgrandson, Kris Cormany and wife, Karen; three great-grandsons; and two sisters, Jane Lathey of Ripley and Ella Marie Casto of Buford, Ga.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, at the Union Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Ron Obenchain officiating. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Ripley. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Bob Miller, Treasurer, Union Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 239, Union, WV 24983.
