Mary Caroline Sward was born in Galesburg, Ill., July 24, 1865, and died in Delphos, Ottawa County, Kansas, March 12, 1945, aged 79 years, 7 months and 18 days.

When about 15 years of age she came with her parents to Kansas and resided on a farm near Marquette, McPherson County, Kansas.

While a girl she was confirmed and united with the Fremont Lutheran Church where she was the church organist until her marriage. She was married to John R. Adams at Marquette, Kansas, on July 29, 1888, and they established their home in Langley, Kansas, where Mr. Adams operated a store. In 1901 the family moved to Delphos where Mrs. Adams was engaged in the mercantile business until his death in 1909. Mrs. Adams continued to operate the store, with the assistance of her half-brother, the late E.N. Holt, and her son, John, until 1918.

She is survived by four sons: John O. Adams of Osborne, Charles E. Adams of Santa Monica, Calif., William A. Adams of Glasco, and Alva S. Adams of Delphos. Her youngest son, Frank M.
