Obituary from The LaPorte Argus, Feb 17, 1881, page 2 (poor copy):
DIED -
Crawley - Feb 9, 1881 at 10:30 o'clock p.m. Viola J., wife of Capt. Jas. A. Crawley, daughter of John H. Armstrong in the 43d year of her age.
Viola J. Crawley was born April 25, 1838 at the farm where George Jaifl? now lives, about one mile from the city of LaPorte, and was the daughter of John H. and Susannah L. Armstrong.
She was married May 8, 1856 to James A. Crawley and went to Greencastle, Ind. where they lived for almost five years.
While at Greencastle, she joined the M. E. church and remained a consistent member all her life. She had for years been afflicted, and for the past three years had been such an invalid that she required constant care, but through all her long suffering she never complained; was patient and loving, saying that while she loved her husband and friends and would like to live, still she was ready and willing to go when it was God's will that she should do so. She was an affectionate daughter, a kind and loving wife, and as a girl and woman, wherever she lived, was loved by everyone who knew her. She always expressed faith in God and resignation to his will during her great and protracted suffering.
Her funeral services were held at the residence of her husband, Capt. J. A. Crawley, Sunday, 12th Inst. at 2 o'clock pm and were attended by a large concourse of loving friends. The services were conducted by Rev. G. M. Boyd of Michigan City, Indiana, a lifelong friend of the family.
