John W. Armstrong
A native of La Porte county, one of its pioneers, a veteran of the civil war, John W. Armstrong died this morning at the family home, 405 Patton street after an illness of several years during which time he was an invalid, though he was patient and uncomplaining, bearing his suffering with the same heroism which marked his career as a soldier of the republic.
Surviving Mr. Armstrong is the wife and companion of many years and two sons, J. Frank Armstrong of New Ulm, Minn and Don C. Armstrong of Kingsbury, La Porte county.
The funeral services will be held at the home Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. George V. Morris officiating. Interment will take place at Pine Lake cemetery, where Patton post GAR will pay the tribute of comradeship. Weir & Petering are the undertakers.
Mr. Armstrong was born at new Durham, this county, May 29, 1842. When the war broke out he was early to enlist. His soldier record was as good as the splendid career which he builded as a citizen and business, while in every other relation of life, as husband and father, he measured up to the high ideals which make for the well lived years. For many years Mr. Armstrong was engaged in the pump business in which he was one of the city's pioneers.
