John was the son of Philip Fairchild and his wife Sophia Bowman.

[Philip and Sophia (Bowman) Fairchild: They are buried at East Pharsalia Cemetery, East Pharsalia Twp., Chenango County, New York. Findagrave memorials exist for them, though without images. Years ago their gravestones were transcribed as, "Philip Fairchild died May 30, 1849 at 76 years & 8 Months" and "Sophia wife of Philip Fairchild Died Apl 4 1839 at 64 yrs & 6 ms."]

John was christened on 9/24/1803 in Wynantskill, Rensselaer, NY. The date of birth is probably earlier than shown.

Death: 3/07/1879 in Caledonia Twp., Kent Co., MI.
Burial: c. 3/10/1879 Alaska Cemetery, Caledonia Twp., Kent Co., MI.

John and Mariah Hall left McDonough in 1851 to move to Granville, Michigan. The rest of the Hall family moved to Michigan after they did. They settled and farmed in Blendon Township, Michigan where John R. Hall became postmaster. In 1885, they left Michigan and moved to El Cajon (near San Diego), California, with many of their children."

Rev. John Fairchild was a farmer, teacher, a mechanic by trade, and a Baptist preacher.

He married Mary-7 Warner, daughter of David-6 Calvin Warner, Jr., and his wife Olive Rawson.

John became a Baptist preacher. He and his wife, plus her sister, Maria Jane "Jane" (Warner) Sears and her husband, Horace Sears, and a few others organized the first Baptist church in Alto, Kent, MI. They also helped organize the churches in Whitneyville and Stone School House, all in Kent County, MI.

His wife, Mary (Warner), was also buried in the Alaska Cemetery in Alaska, Kent County, MI. This large monument is a memorial to John and Mary's memory, and that of their sons Horace and George.
