Husband of Alice A. (Underhill) Hatfield (1855-1911). Abram and Alice married on November 2, 1884 in Decatur County, Iowa. They had three children together: Mergie May (Hatfield) Brannen, Carl Homer Hatfield and Vernon Isaac Hatfield. Abram was married first to Emeline S. (Stanton) Hatfield (1861-1883)on October 26, 1879. Emeline and Abram had at least two children together including: Hettie A. Hatfield and Riley D. Hatfield. Emeline died at age 22 and Abram married Alice about a year later. Abram was also called "Abraham." Abram may have been his nickname only. He was the son of Pvt. John Tilford Hatfield and Susan A. (Hatfield) Hatfield. His father was killed in action during the Civil War when Abram was only ten years old.

Two of Abram's children from his marriage with Alice - Vernon Isaac Hatfield and Mergie May (Hatfield ) Brannen - are buried in Newton, Harvey County, Kansas. Their son, Carl, who died at age 13 from typhoid fever, is buried in this cemetery - Bethel Cemetery. Another daughter, Hettie, daughter of Abram and Emeline, and a son are also buried at Bethel Cemetery.
