MILDORF
Mary R. Mildorf, born June 28, 1919 in Kiel, Wis., died June 3, 2010, at the home she and her family built more than 30 years ago, in Robertsdale.
She was known to many in the area as "the hat lady," for wearing a beautiful hat wherever she went. A devout Christian, she was generous to others and a loving mother and grandmother.
In her working years in Wisconsin, her favorite job was selling real estate, and she regularly was a top sales representative. She also sold insurance and marveled at every job God provided because that was how she supported her family during the years that her husband was disabled. She was unique in that few women had careers back then.
She led a full, rich, and independent life to the end. She loved the Lord, her family, chocolate and old movies, especially westerns. Through her example, she taught her children the meaning of unflagging devotion. Her family will especially remember her commitment to prayer and her close walk with the Lord, who took care of her in every way (and always made sure she had a good parking space). She knew God as her provider, her sustainer, and her friend. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Mildorf, in 1981, and in recent years by her brother-in-law, Frank Mildorf of Robertsdale, two sisters, Imelda Christel and Verena Bartel, and brother, Eugene Christel, all of Wisconsin.
Survivors include four children, Melda Boyd of Reston, Va., Marlene Mesler of Fairhope, Mark Mildorf of Alexandria, Va., and Fred Mildorf of Point Pleasant, N.J.; and 12 grandchildren.
A funeral Mass and memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 2 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Robertsdale.
The family requests memorial donations be made to St. Patrick's Catholic School for scholarships for needy students.
Arrangements are by Mack Funeral Home Inc., Robertsdale.
