Bell started his acting career in repertory theatres in Liverpool and Dublin.
Tom Bell made his first film appearance in 1960 in 'The Kitchen' and 'The L Shaped Room' opposite actress Leslie Caron.
In his early acting career Tom had earned the reputation for being an hellraiser and having a rebellious streak and liked a drink.
In 1978 he gained worldwide attention playing the role of Adolph Eichman in the Emmy Award Winning TV series The Holocaust. He also received a Bafta nomination for playing a tough criminal in the TV series 'OUT' - the character of Frank Ross was played with contained attack by Tom Bell giving the performance realism with great effect.
Tom continued to work in many popular TV series including Prime Suspect opposite Dame Helen Mirren. In the last series it was obvious to everyone Tom was very ill.
Tom Bell died in hospital in Brighton in 2006 - he is survived by his partner..Frances Tempest a son (from an earlier marriage) a daughter and a step daughter.
