Elizabeth was born on 22 February 1852 in Beaver township, Mahoning County, Ohio, daughter of Joseph Culp and Mary (–?–). On 23 June 1860, Elizabeth was living with her parents and siblings- Henry, Jacob, Nancy, William, Joseph, and Susan- and a domestic servant in Beaver township. Her father worked as a farmer and Elizabeth had attended school in the previous year. On 15 August 1870, Eliabeth was doing house work while living with her parents and siblings- Henry, Nancy, William, Joseph, Susanna, Samuel, Isaac, John, and Jacob- in Beaver township.
On 5 June 1880, Elias and Elizabeth lived in Washingtonville, Salisbury township, Columbiana County, Ohio. Elias worked as a laborer while Elizabeth kept house and cared for their four children- Ira, Amanda, Lucy, and Irwin.
Elias was married on 7 June 1883 in Mahoning County to Margaret Klingensmith. Margaret was born on 3 March 1862 in Ohio, daughter of Obidiah Klingensmith and Sarah Crooks.
In June 1900, Elias and Maggie lived in Tuscarawas township, Cheboygan County, Michigan with six children- Irvin, Sheldon, Elsie, Daisey, Elias, and Nelson. Elias and the two oldest boys worked as day laborers. Elsie and Daisey were attending school.
Margaret died on 2 September 1907 from pulmonary tuberculosis in Tuscarora township, Cheboygan County.
On 7 May 1910, Elias lived with three of his children- Daisy, Elias, and Nelson- on a farm in Tuscarora township. Elias, Jr. was working out as a farm laborer. A 1910 directory indicates Elias' farm was in Section 7 in Tuscarora township and was valued at $800, with the Coles going to Alanson to pick up their mail. By 1916, the family's 60-acre farm was valued at $1,600.
On 14 January 1920, Elias and son Nelson were still farming in Tuscarawas township.
Elias died from arteriosclerosis on 30 September 1928 in Tuscarawas township, Cheboygan County, Michigan.
