Carlsbad Buries Youth Who Died At Camp Dix
Carlsbad, N.M., Oct. 12--Walter Mitchell, a soldier, has been buried in the city cemetery. The funeral was the first of a Carlsbad soldier who had died during the great war. Mitchell, who was 22 years of age, left Carlsbad in July for Camp Cody, and after going through the usual training, was sent to Camp Dix. There he succumbed to influenza and Wednesday his body was received in town.
Fife and drums played the last march for the dead soldier and a long line of citizens followed the flag decked casket to the grave.
Two brothers, Lige and Ross, remain in Carlsbad. A third is in France.
