He married, first, on Jan 20,1820 at Halifax,VT, Frances "Fanny" Boardman. Frances was born June 22,1797, and died December 20,1841, in Bennington,VT.

He married, second, Sarah B. Howard.

Children(by first marriage): Horace Boardman Smith, Grace A Smith Squires, Fannie Smith Welles, Edward H Smith, and Sophia L Smith Boardman.

Dr.Smith was living in Whitingham, Windham County, Vermont in 1826. By 1844, he was living in Elmira, Chemung County, New York. Later, he removed his family to Columbia Cross Roads, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.
