MRS. MARTHA HORNBOSTLE

It came as a shock to the relatives and friends to learn of the death of Mrs. Martha Hornbostel, one of our well known residents.

Martha Dierks was born Oct. 20, 1863, near Bensenville where she spent her girlhood days being confirmed by Pastor Lehman at St. John's Evangelical church in 1878. Oct. 23, 1882 she was united in holy matrimony with Mr. Henry Hornbostel.

The first three years of their union were spent in Nebraska, later coming to Chicago from whence they came to Bensenville, building the paint and wall paper store and their home in which they resided all these years. This union was blessed with five children, four daughters and one son, George who died in childhood. After a long illness Mr. Hornbostel preceeded his wife in April 1912. Mrs. Hornbostel always had a strong healthy constitution but took a severe cold about four months ago which kept her ailing but not until ten days before the end came did she think it necessary to consult a doctor. All that doctors skill could do was done and she bore her illness always cheerful. Without warning she passed away at noon Monday, Aug. 3, 1914, to that Home eternal where she shall know no parting, aged 50 years, nine months and 13 days.

She was a home loving woman seldom going out and it is in the home where her going is felt most keenly. She leaves to mourn her departure four daughters, Mathilda Fox, Amanda, Hulda Brown and Vandella, two sons-in-law, Al Fox of Los Angeles, Cal., and Carlton Brown of Bensenville and one grandson, Lawrence Brown.

The many friends filled the Friedens church Friday to pay their last respects to one who was ever ready to give a helping hand. The Ladies' Aid acted as honorary pallbearers and sang a last parting hymn. Many were the beautiful floral pieces were sent by the wholesale houses of Chicago with whom she had traded. Burial at the family lot in Friedens cemetery.
