LOUIS GROBE

Carl William Louis Grobe was born Feb. 4, 1874, in Hanover, Germany. When 10 weeks old his parents moved to this country and settled at Elmhurst. On Palm Sunday, 1887, he was confirmed in the Christian faith at St. Peter's church, Elmhurst, by the Rev. Daniel Irion. He received as his memory verse, St. John 14, 6--"Jesus said I am the way, the truth and the life."

After his school days were over he worked for his brothers and an uncle. On June 23, 1907, he united in holy wedlock with Miss Martha Retz, the ceremony was performed by the late Rev. H. Wolf, in St. John's church. After the marriage the young couple moved to Waverly, Iowa, but a year later returned and located at Bensenville where they have resided ever since.

Deceased was employed by Carl Kirchhoff for 14 years and by the late Fred Koelker for 16 years. The past few years he has been employed as janitor of the Green St. grade school where he has become very close in friendship in the board of education, the instructors and pupils whom his daily work brought him in contact with.

In 1926 he and his wife were privileged to enjoy the celebration of their silver wedding and the event was one that will long be remembered by the many friends participating in the occasion.

To the deceased and his earthly companion, nine children were born, three sons and six daughters, two having preceded their father in death in their infancy. Of the seven remaining children, one son and one daughter, are married and live in Bensenville, while five are still at home with their mother. Departed had enjoyed good health all his life and it is said that this illness was the first cause of him requesting the service of a physician during his 61 years on this earth.

The illness started as a bad cold and developed into a serious case of pneumonia which took such a firm hold on the patient that medical science was unable to overcome it and death came to our beloved friend and neighbor. Mr. Grobe has been a member of Frieden's church since it was organized in 1903 and served as a trustee of that church for several years. Those left to mourn his departure are his sorrowing wife Martha, his children, Otto Grobe, Laura Rands, both married, George, Rose, Arnold, Dorothy and Florence, all at home and three grand children, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, and a large number of other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at Geils Funeral Home and Frieden's church Saturday afternoon, April 27. Rev. Wagner delivered the consolation message and the remains were laid to rest in Frieden's cemetery.
