Barbara Robertson was born in Waterford, Ireland 1844 and came to America with her parents George and Barbara Sharp Robertson and her two sisters Jane and Helena. Barbara married Thomas Warden February 15, 1869 at the 4th Presbyterian Church in Manhattan, New York. Thomas was a jeweler in New York and their first son Charles Howard Warden was born there July 31, 1870 and died July 1931 in Wanganui, New Zealand. Sometime about 1873 Thomas and Barbara and Charles move to E Providence, Rhode Island where he was a jeweler listed in the E Providence City Directory for 1873, 1874 and 1875. We think George was born in New York August 1, 1874 just before the move to Providence, Rhode Island. 1876, Barbara, Charles & George go to Scotland where they live for about six years and in August 1882, Barbara and Charles and George sail to Balclutha, New Zealand where they lived for eight years. Charles remains in New Zealand and Barbara and George return to America by 1892 ; George marries in 1897 and lives in Brooklyn and later in Amityville, Long Island, New York. Barbara, Jane and Helena were all married and living in Greenpoint, New York. Jane and William Russell lived in New York all of their life and Helena and William Comrie moved to E Providence, Rhode Island where they lived until their deaths in 1922 and 1930. Our question today What prompted Barbara to go off to Scotland? Her father had lots of cousins and family members to go to New Zealand between 1856-1882 and the great nephews of niece Janet Graham Gow move to New Zealand South Island in 1880. We find Barbara had older sisters & maybe a brother's family to go to New Zealand. Perhaps she was tracing her genealogy.
