CARL NELSON
---Carl Adolph Nelson, eighty-one, of La Plata, died Friday night in a Kirksville hospital.
---He was the son of Hans P. and Marren (Hanson) Nelson and was born February 26, 1879 in Denmark. He later became a citizen of the United States.
---He attended the grade and high school at Lamar, Missouri and was married January 15, 1925 to Clara May Hern in Columbia. Three daughters were born to them.
---Surviving are his wife and the daughters, Betty Nelson of Columbia, Mrs. James (Carleen) Stauffer of Chalfont, Pennsylvania and Mrs. Richard (Christeen) Johnsey, also of Columbia; several nieces also survive; one half-brother and one sister preceded him in death.
---Mr. Nelson enlisted for service in the Spanish-American Army in 1898 at the age of eighteen, and afterwards entered the United States Army. He was retired in 1931 as a Master Sergeant after thirty years.
---He was a member of the American Legion, adjutant Spanish-American War Veterans Post No. 28; a veteran of the Spanish-American War and World War I where he served as Second Lieutenant. He conducted training in the school during World War II.
---Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the La Plata Christian church with military rites. Officiating ministers were Rev. Frank Stout and Rev. F.L. Hudson. Burial was in the La Plata Cemetery. Wilson Funeral Home was in charge.
