Juanita Short Banks, 90, passed from this life Sept. 6, 2010, at Ridgewood Health Care Center in Jasper. Gravideside service will be at Midway Church of Christ Cemetery on Highway 69 at 11:30 a.m.

Juanita was born in Corinth, AL on June 1, 1920, to Obediah and Matilda Jane (Snow) Short. She was the youngest of 10 children, living her entire life in the Oakman/Jasper area. She was active in her church, was a wonderful cook, an avid reader, and was a successful representative for Mary Kay Cosmetics. She also loved to travel, enjoyed writing short stories and poetry and had a green thumb when it came to African violets. Mrs. Banks resided at Ridgewood Health Care Center at the time of her death and counted among her friends the staff and caregivers there. The family is eternally grateful to these wonderful people for the care and love shown to Mrs. Banks in her final years.

Mrs. Banks is survived by her 4 sons and their wives, James O. Banks Jr. (Virgie), Michael A. Banks (Fran), Larry B. Banks (Betty) and J. Tim Banks (Jane); 6 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Rutledge and Judy Banks, Mae and Travis Caldwell, sisters-in-law, Pauline Banks, Ruby Lee Walton and Mary Faye Banks and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Banks was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, James Odell Banks, Sr.; her parents, 5 brothers, William, Lynn, Henry, Giles and Charlie; 4 sisters, Elizabeth, Martha Jane, Leona and Caldonia and their spouses. She was also preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Johnny Banks, Sammy Walton, Hugh Watson Banks and Curtis Hyche and suster-in-law, Imogene Hyche.
