When Margaret "Maggie" Matilda Milliken was born on September 23, 1864, in Ontario, Canada, her father, William, was 33 and her mother, Susan (Blow), was 23. Margaret was a first generation Canadian, her father, born in Scotland and her mother, born in Ireland, were immigrants. Margaret was the third of twelve children, her siblings were: Elizabeth McGee, born 1860; William John “Jack”, born 1862; Mary Ann Hutchison, born 1866; Jane, born 1873 (died 1873); Samuel, born 1873; Jane, born 1875; James, born 1877; Bertha, born 1880 (died 1880); Rebecca Susan “Aunt Beck”, born 1880; Robert, born 1882; and, Thomas Wellington, born 1885.

She married Herbert Cooke Beach on January 14, 1891, in Turtle Mountain, Manitoba, Canada. They had three children while still living in Canada: James William, born 1892; Susan Elizabeth, born 1893; and Alice “Allie”, born 1895. The couple immigrated to South Dakota in 1896, where their fourth child, Walter Raymond, was born in 1902. In 1906 the couple relocated to Mountain Home, Idaho. In 1908 Margaret lost Allie to appendicitis and they adopted Ruth Ann, their fifth child.

Margaret died on July 16, 1941, in Mountain Home, Idaho, at the age of 76, and was buried there.
