Maxwell K. Beach was born on December 10, 1859 in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania. Son of Bartholomew Beach and Catherine Langham, he was the brohter of Martha, Calvin, Ida Mary, Sanuel M., Jesse Orie, May, William, Lillie and Harry. Maxwell married Anna Davis on September 13, 1883 in Hollidaysburg, and they were the parents of Robert George, Ralph, Roy, Mary, Grace, Cora, Raymond Andrew, Emma Elizabeth (Sister M. Finian, IHM), Earl (infant), Sarah (Sister M. Marcellina, IHM) and Merrill Joseph. He was employed as a brakeman and laster watchman for the Pennsylvania Railroad. After the death of his wife, he moved to Altoona to live with his daughter, Mary. Maxwell died on April 6, 1943 and was buried with his wife in Old St. Mary's Cemetery, Hollidaysburg, PA.


"Maxwell K. Beach, 120 Tenth Street, a retired P.R.R. employe died at his home yesterday morning at 5:30 o'clock. He was born December 10, 1867 in Hollidaysburgh, the son of Bartholomew and Catherine (Langham) Beach. He served the P.R.R. for more than 50 years, being awarded a 50-year service emblem in 1933. He started as a brakeman in 1881 and ended his work as a watchman at the Hollidaysburg tower. He was united in marriage September 13, 1883 in Hollidaysburg with Miss Ann Davis.

Surviving are the following children: Robert G. and Ralph D. Beach, both of Altoona; Raymond A., of Corapolis; Miss Mary Beach, at home; Mrs. Grace Hoffman, and Mrs. Cora Snyder, both of Altoona, and two daughters of the Immaculate Heart order, Sister Finian of Williamsport and Sister Marcellina of Manhassett, N.Y. Surviving also are seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Charles Divens of McKeesport, and a brother, Orie Beach in California.

Mr. Beach was a member of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament.
