T. W. Slaughter Dies in Beat Two Thursday.

Thomas W. Slaughter, aged 68 years, prominent citizen and farmer of the Double Head community, passed away at his home last Thursday morning at three o'clock following an illness of six weeks, which confined him to his home. He had been in failing health, however, for the past several months, but only recently his condition became acute.

The deceased was born and reared in this county and had lived in Beat Two for the past forty-two years, where he had been a staunch leader in religious and financial affairs of his community. He was prominently identified with the many interests of the county as well as his interests locally. He reared a family of five children, who survive him.

The funeral service was held from Bethel Baptist church last Friday afternoon at two o'clock with Revs. T. H. Landers, pastor of the church, and G. D. Hunt, of the Christian faith, being the officiating ministers. Interment was in the Bethel Cemetery.

The deceased is survived by his widow, Mrs. T. W. Slaughter; two sons, George I. and Robert, of this county; three daughters, Mrs. Verna Kitchens, Mrs. W. R. Slagle and Miss Bettie Slaughter, of this county; two half brothers, S. W. Alford, of Welsh, and Alec Alford, of Double Springs, Ala., a number of grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

Pall bearers were Homer Lee, Britt and Frank Higgins, Leonard Collier, Klein Hood and Jake Royston.
