Ernest was born in Los Angeles and lived there all of his life until he enlisted in the Marines 1 August 1968, at a recruiting office in Los
Angeles.
Upon arriving in Vietnam 15 February 1969 Ernest was assigned to Golf Company, 2nd Battalion,
9th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division. Golf Company was participating in Operation Cameron Falls with perimeter security at FSB Whisman and 15 kilometers west of Ca Lu Airfield, when the base was attacked by hostile forces using small arms fire and grenades. Ernest died as a result of fragmentation wounds to the left upper chest, both buttocks and left upper leg from a hostile grenade.
Survived by his father, Edward Abeyta of 3428 N Broadway, Los Angeles, California and his mother, Maria Abeyta of address unknown.
