Edmund was a son of Thomas Hart Taylor and his wife Sarah Elizabeth Blanton.

In the 1870 census Edmund was living in the Market House District in Franklin County, Kentucky and was employed as a clerk in a distillery.

Edmund married Anna Innes Watson on April 9, 1874 in Frankfort. She was a daughter of Edward Howe Watson and his wife Sarah Lee Crittendon. They had four children - Sarah, Thomas, Edmund and Adeline.

In the 1880 census Edmund was living in Frankfort in the household of his mother-in-law and employed as a tinware merchant. Also in the household were Edmund's wife, three children and other in-laws.

By 1900, Edmund, now a widower, was living in the Lake View area of Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, with his four children.

By 1920, Edmund and his daughter Adeline were living in the home of his brother Hart in Chicago.
