He served in Military Company A. Military Regiment 13 Ills Cav with his oldest brother, John Joseph Frett. They were most likely called Sr. and Jr. to distinguish them apart.

John Jr. is not the son of John Joseph who did not marry Ann Gerhard until about 1846, which was six years after the birth of John, Jr. in 1840. These two men are sons of Nicholas Frett and Maria Klein of McHenry Co., IL. Also, of note is that John, Jr. was born a year before Albany whom is listed incorrectly in some records as John Albany Frett. Albany married a Maria A. (Miller?) probably about 1867 or 8 just before their first son was born. John, Jr. married closer to 1864, before the birth of his first child a daughter in 1865/6.
