John W. Leonard was the son of Martin Leonard (b. 1821 in Ireland d. circa 1908) and Sarah/Sally
Widener Leonard (b. 1822 in Virginia (census) d. unknown).
John W. Leonard Overview:
m. Victoria M. Deal, (b. in Sullivan Co. TN September 1871), in 1885. She was Frank Deal's sister. Their parents were John and Elizabeth Deal. (1870, 1880, and 1900 census and death certificates).

John was a regular customer of his brother E.M. Leonard at E.M.'s grocery circa 1900 with a craving for pigs feet and tobacco (store Ledger). The family engaged in farming and resided on Madison Street in Chattanooga. He died of dysentery on October 6, 1906 and is buried at Forest Hills Cemetery. Victoria was pregnant at the time and gave birth to their eighth child, Jethro, two months later in December 1906. (Information from David M. Leonard)
