Tyrone Daily Herald, 18 February 1910:

"MRS MATILDA BURLEY

"One of the Oldest Residents of Tyrone Passes to Her Reward

"This morning at 5:30 o'clock the spirit life of Mrs. Matilda Burley passed into the eternal world. Mrs. Burley, who has been making her home with her daughter Mrs. Irvin Gray on West Eleventh street has only been ill a little over two weeks and in fact her sickness was not considered serious until about one week ago, when her friends noticed the racking disease incident to the general breakdown of the system was slowly growing worse and that it was only a question of a short time until she would enter into rest.

The passing away of this good old woman has removed from Tyrone one of the oldest residents of the town. She was a woman of excellent qualities and was kind and charitable to all. Not only will she be sadly missed among her children but a host of friends will mourn her going. Mrs. Burley was an earnest Christian woman and when in health she always took pleasure in performing her duties to the First English Lutheran church of which she had the honor of being one of the charter members. She was the widow of the late Caleb Burley, who preceded her to the grave about sixteen years ago.

Mrs. Matilda Burley was born at Tyrone Forges May 18, 1829 and was aged 80 years and 9 months.

Surviving to mourn her death are the following children: Mrs. Harry McMullen, Union Furnace; R.F. Burley, Mahanoy City and Mrs. Irvin T. Gray of Tyrone. She is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Reuben Fox, Mrs. Luther Fleck and Miss Mollie Fox, all of Sinking Valley."

Tyrone Daily Herald, 19 February 1910:

"The funeral of Mrs. Matilda Burley will occur on Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. The funeral cortege will leave the home at 2 o'clock and proceed to the First Lutheran church where services will be conducted by the pastor, Rev. E.M. Morgan. Interment in Grand View cemetery."
