He was born in Tishomingo County, Miss., on Feb. 8, 1918, to the late Rev. George A. Bacon and Emma Nunley Bacon. Mr. Bacon lived in the Tuscumbia area most of his life. He retired from the Tennessee Valley Authority after 30 years of service and was a founding member of Calvary Baptist Church.
A devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he always considered his primary duties, the care and well-being of his family and home, a pleasure.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Mae Cain Bacon; parents, George and Emma Bacon; and brother, J.H. Bacon.
He is survived by his son, Jimmy Bacon and wife, Jewell, of Tuscumbia, Ala.; daughters, Karen Kimbrough and husband, Archie, of Tuscumbia, Ala., and Martha Newbern and husband, Gerald, of Florence, Ala.; six grandchildren, Stuart Bacon, Debra Collingsworth, Tim Bacon, Greg Kimbrough, Josh Newbern and Ben Newbern; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Donald Bacon and Johnny Bacon; and four sisters, Evie Barnes, Jewell Coburn, Willa Crowell and Beatrice Hooper.
Arrangements will be made by Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. Visitation will be 1:30-3 p.m. Sunday, March 20, 2011, at Calvary Baptist Church, Tuscumbia. Memorial services follow, with Brother Jeff Newton officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Tuscumbia.
Serving as pallbearers are grandsons and great-grandson, Dustin Bacon.
Honorary pallbearer is Cody Collinsworth.
