MORRETT

George Howard Morrett, son of Andy and Peco (Gartin) Morrett, was born at home on a farm south of Chariton Nov. 13, 1921. He passed away Oct. 5, 1998 at his home near Rathbun Lake at the age of 76 years, 10 months and 22 days.

He attended Braden country school and graduated from Chariton High School in 1940.

George served 3-1/2 years in the U.S. Navy.

He was united in marriage to Lois Ockerman in December, 1945. He did mechanic and general repair work until he retired in 1978. That year he and his wife built their home in Appanoose County near Rathbun Lake.

Seven children grew up in this home, Linda, Evelyn, Andy, Lois Jean, Danny, Cynthia and James.

George was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Andy, and his daughter, Cynthia.

Survivors include his wife, Lois, of Rathbun Lake, two sons, Danny and wife Ronda of Chariton, and James and wife Lisa of Fredericksburg, Va., three daughters, Linda and husband Charles Horton of Humeston, Evelyn and husband Dan Ryan of Lucas, and Lois Jeffries of Chariton, 14 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two sisters, Ruth Anderson of Chariton and Doris and husband David Rosenberger of Des Moines, plus numerous other relatives and friends.

The body was cremated and no funeral service is planned.
