Adolphus Alexander Shuford was born 17 Feb 1861 In Catawba County, NC, the eldest child of Peter Monroe Shuford and Sarah Adeline, last name unknown.

He married Martha Adeline Dagenhardt around 1883. 1910 Census lists them as having 11 children with 7 living. They raised their family in the Morganton area of Burke County, NC.

In his early years, US Census list him as a farmer, then later as a carpenter. In 1930 he owned a sawmill and provided the lumber for the building of his church, Enon Baptist.

Adolphus died at 75 years of age on January 26, 1937. He is buried in the cemetery of the church he helped build. His wife Martha, his parents, 4 of his children, Fred, Laura, Bertie, and an unnamed infant, along with his granddaughter, Renna, are also buried in Enon Baptist Church Cemetery.
