HE WAS BURIED AS AN UNKNOWN -

John Brantley's Body Recovered from Railroad Wreck.

KILLED AT CAMP CREEK

Was Buried with Five Others who Were Not Identified.

MONEY FOUND IN BURIED CLOTHES

Brantley's Body Brought to the City Last Night by Undertaker Swift To Be Buried at Hollywood.

Nearly three weeks after the frightful wreck on the Southern Railway near McDonough, the body of John Brantley was exhumed from one of the graves of the unknown yesterday and was brought to Atlanta last night.

John Brantley was the son of Dr. A. H. (Augustus Hulsey) Brantley, of 606 South Pryor Street, and he was a fireman on the Southern railroad, but was a passenger on the Southern train at the time of the wreck.

After the many dead bodies had been taken from the debris, four were not identified and were buried not far from the culvert where the train had been ditched and where about thirty-five persons had been killed.

John Brantley was away from home and he was expected to return about the time the wreck occurred, but it was not known he was on the train which went down into Camp Creek.

A young wife, an anxious family and many other relatives waited to hear tiding of him and as the days passed by and no news was received from him, the belief that he was among the killed in the wreck gained credence and yesterday it was decided to exhume the bodies of the unknown.

Yesterday morning, Undertaking C. H. Swift, accompanied by a brother of the missing man, went to Camp Creek and all four of the graves marked "unknown" were opened.

In one of them a body was found which was identified as that of John Brantley. The head was gone and one arm and a leg were torn off, but a burn on the body and a scar on the remaining hand served to show that the body was that of John Brantley.

In exhuming the bodies to find that of John Brantley, Undertaker Swift found the clothes belonging to A. J. Pate and son, who were amond the killed in the wreck, and in a pocket of a coat was $37.50. The money was brought to the city and awaits a claimant.

The body of John Brantley will be buried at Hollywood Cemetery this morning.

The deceased leaves a young wife.
