U.S. Congressman. He graduated from the Illinois State Normal University in 1862, then assisted in recruiting the 81st Illinois Volunteers and served as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Union Army until the close of the Civil War. After the war, he settled in Arkansas, engaged in planting and upon the readmission of Arkansas to representation, he was elected as a Republican to the Fortieth Congress, reelected to the Forty-first Congress, serving (1868-71). An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he served as president of the First National Bank of Little Rock, Arkansas, until his death.
