Carl Tamm Chilton Times April 29, 1911

Carl Tamm, an old and respected resident of the town of Brillion, and a veteran of the great Civil war, died at the home of his son, William, last Saturday at the age of 80 years, survived by four sons, August, John, William and Frank, and one daughter, Mrs. Wm. Kloehn, decedent's wife having preceded him in death by eight years.
The departed was born in Stetin, Germany, in 1831 and there grew to manhood's estate. In 1855 he was married and with his bride of a year, emigrated to America in 1856, settling at Waukesha. In 1862 the family removed to the town of Brillion, settling on the farm now owned by August Tamm. Then came the call to arms and he with many of the Fatherland's sturdy sons, rushed to the defense of their adopted country. He fought with the army of the Potomac in eighteen of the bloodiest battles of the war and time and again his valiant regiment of Wisconsin men was frightfully decimated. In the battle of Gettysburg he was one of only six men left in the regiment at the close of the battle. Receiving his honorable discharge he returned to wife and home and here he has lived these many years. After retiring from active farming he made his home with his son, William.
The departed couple brought up the family in ways of thrift and sobriety and all stand high among their fellows. August is a member of the county Board of Supervisors, from the town of Brillion. The family are member of the Ger. M.E. Church, where funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, Rev. Schmidt preached an eloquent sermon. Six nephews acted as pall bearers and the remains were accompanied to the grave by surviving member of the local GAR post and a large number of people. – Brillion News
Mr. Tamm was a member of Company B Seventh Wisconsin Infantry.
