W. I. Orndoff, 72, One
Time Commissioner, Dies
at Home at Oak Forest
William Isaac Orndoff, 72, former county commissioner and well known farmer, died at 6 p.m. yesterday, August 31, 1943, at his home at Oak Forest. Mr. Orndoff had been in failing health for the last year, but was bedfast only the last five weeks.
Mr. Orndoff was employed for a number of years as field foreman for the old Monongahela Gas Company, but for the last several years he had been engaged in farming and stock raising. He was a lifelong and active Democrat, serving one term as county commissioner from 1936 to 1939 inclusive. He was a member of the Oak Forest Methodist Church.
A son of the late William and Eleanore Shriver Orndoff, he was born August 22, 1871, in Whiteley Township and spent all his life in Greene County. He married Nora Rose, whose death occurred in 1939. He was the father of one son, Bernard Kenneth Orndoff, who died during his senior year in Waynesburg High School. One foster son, Joseph M. Orndoff, who is in the U. S. Army and stationed at Camp Van Dorn, Miss., one brother, John C. Orndoff, who is employed at the Mayview State Hospital, and one sister, Mrs. Donley Ammons, of Greensboro Star Route, Waynesburg.
