Catalina "Tita" G. Mejia, 96, a lifetime resident of Mercedes passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2009 at Knapp Medical Hospital in Weslaco.
Catalina was born April 30, 1913 to Jose Garcia and Severa Filipes in Monterrey N.L. Mexico.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Macario Mejia, two brothers, Arnulfo Garcia and Bernardo Garcia, and one sister, Encarnacion Martinez.
She is survived by one brother, Eulalio Garcia, one sister, Maria Del Carmen Gabriel, four sons, Jose Daniel Mejia, Macario Jose Mejia,
Esteban Mejia, and Ramon Mejia, six daughters, Damiana Escareno, Consuelo Tristan, Guadalupe (Lupita) Martinez, Juanita (Janie) Gomez, Esmeralda Mejia, and Catarina Mejia, 39 grandchildren and 50 great grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Sunday, May 3, 2009 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and a rosary was recited at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted today, Monday, May 4, 2009. We will depart Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace at 1:30 p.m. for a 2:00 p.m. mass at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church.
Interment will then follow at Highland Memorial Park cemetery in Weslaco, Texas.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Abraham Mejia, Macario Mejia Jr., Juan O. Martinez Jr., Timothy Isaac Gomez, Esteban Mejia Jr. & Ramon Mejia Jr.
