Marcella Ridlen Costello

Marcella Ridlen Costello, age 86, of Imogene, Iowa, formerly Springfield, Missouri, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2011 in the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa.

Marcella R. Costello was born November 27, 1924 in Lyman, Iowa the daughter of Henry and Minnie (Frank) Sothman. She grew up in Lyman and graduated from the Atlantic High School. She got her teaching certificate and taught school for several years.

Marcella was united in marriage to Donovan Ridlen on December 9, 1944 in the Little Brown Church in the Vale at Nashua, Iowa. They lived several different places in Iowa before moving to Diamond, Missouri where they operated a turkey farm and raised dogs. Seven years later they moved to Strafford, Missouri and later Springfield, Missouri. Marcella worked at St. John's Hospital in the Dietary Department for many years. Don preceded her in death in 1977. Marcella retired in 1990 and was united in marriage to Lynn Costello on January 13, 1990 in Springfield, Missouri. They made their home in Imogene, Iowa. Marcella was a member of the Sunnyside Bible Chapel and enjoyed participating in Bible Studies.

Preceding her in death were her parents; both husbands; siblings, Kermit Sothman, Berdele Petersen, Orlin Sothman, and Luella Costello. Survivors include her children, Rosalie Duckworth and husband Lawrence, Jr. of Ozark, Mo., Margaret Comer and husband Kenneth, of Strafford, Mo., Michael Ridlen and wife Peggy, of St. Charles, Mo., and Marc Ridlen and wife Rachel, of Sydney, Australia; 20 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; step-children, Randall Costello and wife Kimberly, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Linda Brown and husband Warren, of Franca, Brazil; Joyce Moffitt and husband Paul, of Cypress, Texas, Janis Anderson and husband Paul, of Boone, Iowa, and Mark Costello and wife Rachel, of Imogene, Iowa; sisters, Arlene Riepe, of Griswold, Iowa, Aletha Sanny, of Goodman, Mo., Alberta Becker and husband John, of Cumberland, Iowa, and Janet Thompson and husband Don, of Park City, Kan.; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 30, 2011 in the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Pastor Mike Eells officiating. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will take place in the Greenlawn North Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri on Friday, April 1, 2011 at 2 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Ozark Family Camp or the Sunnyside Bible Chapel.
