Mr. Coburn was born in Colbert County and was a member of Washington Park Baptist Church in Muscle Shoals. Before World War II, he was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps stationed in Fort Payne. During World War II, he was a corporal in the Army, Americal Division, and fought on the islands of Guadalcanal, Bougainville, Leyte and Cebu for which he was awarded the Bronze Star. Mr. Coburn was an iron worker at Reynolds for more than 33 years and was in the Iron Worker's Union since 1950.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Maury and Effie Fort Coburn; brother, Earnest Coburn; and sister, Thelma Barnett.
He is survived by his wife, Jewel Bacon Coburn; sons, David M. Coburn (Karrie) and Danny T. Coburn (Debbie); daughter, Patricia Mackey-Cook; sisters, Murl Schwarm, Barberton, Ohio, and Christine Williams, Canton, Ohio; grandchildren, Jason Mackey (Amanda), Brian Mackey (Dean), Kendra Dobbs (Matt), Grace Ann Coburn, Amanda Williams, Rebecca Coburn and Donald Williams; great-grandchildren, Keller, Brylee, Sawyer and Kyndall Mackey.
Pallbearers will be Brian Mackey, Johnny Bacon, William Earl Floyd, Travis Willett, Donald Williams and Terry Bacon.
