Nora P. Albright
Mrs. Albright, 79, of Charlotte died March 26, 2011. Mrs. Albright was born in Lumberton, NC to Mary Lee Caldwell Parker and Lawrence McKellar Parker. She graduated from Lumberton High School, Salutatorian, in 1949. Blessed with intelligence and beauty, she was runner up in the Miss North Carolina Beauty Pageant. She attended Queens College as a music major and was a member of the Phi Mu sorority. She was selected for the May Court in 1951.
Mrs. Albright was active in the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and served as the youngest Regent of the Mecklenburg Chapter from 1970-72. She served on the DAR Board as the State Librarian for three years and also served on the Boards of the Opera Guild Carolina and Friends of UNCC. For almost 15 years she volunteered at Charlotte Latin School. She taught Sunday School at Myers Park Presbyterian Church where she was a lifelong member. She was also a member of the Myers Park Country Club.
After her children were grown, Nora entered the business world at McIntyre & Company in 1982. She also worked at USF&G from 1986 until 1993. Upon retirement, she took over family business affairs as President of Albright Properties LLC and Alde Corporation until her death.
Nora Dean Parker and Harold Dowe Albright, Jr. were married on September 8, 1951. She was a devoted wife and mother for 52 years until Harold's death on Christmas day, 2003. Nora stated that her goal in life was 'to be a good wife and mother, and a positive role model for my children, grandchildren and friends.'
Nora was a bright, funny and lively storyteller. In her Eastern Carolina lilt, she would captivate her audience with details, many detours and humor. She was an avid reader of world events and business, and traveled throughout Europe and Asia with her daughter and others on several occasions. She was a wonderful listener and endeared herself to all with an engaging personality and ability to convey genuine interest in their lives. Simply put, Nora loved the art of conversation. For her friends and family she always had a heart warming smile, a warm embrace, words of encouragement, food on the stove, and a proud gaze. Her love and devotion to her family was a life long blessing and inspiration. She was exceptionally kind andgenerous and represented the best values of the South that she now passes on to her loved ones.
Three years after the death of her husband she was reacquainted with her high school sweetheart, Max N. Kinlaw, who was also recently widowed. Fifty-six years later, it was love at first sight and they were married ten months later on November 10, 2007. Until her death, they spent wonderful times together reliving the past and creating new memories. Everyone who saw them together felt their beautiful bond and took their love story as an inspiration and a testament to the indomitable human spirit.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Albright was preceded in death by her sister Mary Caldwell Parker Moore.
She is survived by two children, Dr. Harold D. Albright III M.D. and wife Alice of Charlotte; and Dean Albright Hanley and husband Ed of Norfolk, VA; granddaughters, Mary Helen Albright, Rebecca Ann Albright, Parker Middleton Hanley, Mary Peyton Hanley; Sarah Beth Hanley and Heather Rose Hanley; and the two sons of husband Max Kinlaw, Scott Kinlaw of Greensboro and family, Jeff Kinlaw of Albemarle and family.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at Myers Park Presbyterian Church on Thursday March 31, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Hunter Roddey will officiate. Interment will be at Sharon Memorial Mausoleum afterward.
Pallbearers will be Stan Meares, Robert W. Odom, Dr. Robert H. Gaither, E Craig Sasser, John H. Oliver, William D. Thomas, and Richard Lockhart. Honorary pallbearers are James Fields and Thomas E. Blair.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Myers Park Presbyterian Church.
