1810 U.S. Census, Freeborn Lewis and his wife (Esther) lived in Norwich, Chenango, New York with two children. (Esther's father, Elnathan Terry, and his family also lived in Norwich, New York in the 1810 Census.)

1820 U.S. Census: Freeborn Lewis and his wife (Esther) lived in Norwich, Chenango, New York with six children.

1830 U.S. Census: Joseph M. Barber is named as head of house in Franklinville, Cattaraugus, New York, living with his wife and with five children. His wife was Esther Terry Lewis Barber. The male under age 5 was Elnathan Barber (age 1). The two females under five would have been Altana Barber (age 5) and Almeda Barber (age 3). (Rhody Selinda Lewis, age 8, is not listed. This may have been an error, or maybe she was living with another relative.) The male between would have been Daniel Lewis (age 11). The female between ages 10 and 15 would have been Eunice Barber (age 14).
Note: Franklinville is right next to Ischua, Cattaraugus, NY, where Joseph Maxson Barber's brother Caleb lived with his family.

1840 U.S. Census: Joseph M. Barber lived in Harbor Creek, Erie, Pennsylvania, with his wife and three children. The three children would have been Altana, Almeda, and Elnathan. Esther's children from her first marriage were all old enough to be married or out of the house--- her youngest was 18 in 1840.
Note: In the will of Esther's father, Elnathan Terry, in 1841, he names his daughter Esther Barber and her husband Maxson Barber as living in Pennsylvania.

1850 U.S Census: Joseph and Esther Barber live in Poland, Chautauqua, New York, with their oldest daughter Altana Barber Hoag and her two-year-old daughter Emma, their daughter Almeda ("Alma"), and their son Elnathan Barber.

1855 New York State Census: Joseph and Esther Barber live in Norwich, Chenango, New York, with their daughter Altana Hoag and her husband W.D. Hoag, and with Altana and William's daughter Emma, age 7 and baby son Elnathan ("Nathan"). They are all living in the household of Cyrus E. Loomis, 34, and his wife Elizabeth Loomis, 31.

1860 U.S. Census: Joseph and Esther Barber live in Little Sioux, Harrison, IOWA, with their daughter Altana and son-in-law William D. Hoag and their children.
