Karl was born December 3, 1834 in Diersburg, Germany. His parents were Valentine Feist and Maria Anna Kramer. Valentine was a farmer in Diersburg.

Karl married Karolina Vollmer on January 23, 1860 in Diersburg, Germany. (Marriage permit No. 15126 issued by the Grand Duchy of Offenburg, dated December 31, 1859)

Karl & Karolina came to America in January 1873, arriving in New York on the "Holland" with Pauline (11), Valentine (6) and Theresa (9 months). Karolina went back to Germany. She returned to America arriving in New Orleans on the "Hannover" in May 1876 with Pauline (12), Michael (10), Valentine (8), Magdalene (6) and Maria (2).

By 1878, the family had settled in Milam County, Texas. They appear on the 1880 census. The family moved to Falls County, Texas. By 1910, the family had moved to Runnels County, Texas.

Karl and Karolina had 10 children according to the 1910 census. Only 7 were living in 1910.

Karl died July 5, 1910. He is buried in St. Joseph Cemetery in Rowena, Texas.
