Vallie Jane McGraw, 96, of Beckley, passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2013, at the Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital.

Born on January 29, 1917, at Bolt, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Larkin Austin Bailey and Nancy Mae Snuffer Bailey.

Mrs. McGraw was a homemaker, and was a member of the Cross Pointe Church of God in Beckley. She had made Beckley her home for most of her life. Mrs. McGraw enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and working in her flower garden. She loved all people and had never met a stranger.

Mrs. McGraw was preceded in death by her husband, B. Keith McGraw, by a son, Fred Shumate, by sisters, Sadie Snuffer, Ruby Daniel, and by brothers, Carmen, Arnold Bailey, and Clinton Bailey.

Survivors include her daughter, Phyllis York and her husband Gary of Beckley; four grandchildren, Donna Preston and her husband Donald of Tennessee, Gary Brown and his wife Betty of Tennessee, Vicky Shumate of Texas, and Bryan Shumate of Texas; five great-grandchildren, Amanda Newman, Jared Eaton, Hannah Brown, Britney Brown, and Joseph Shumate; two great-great-grandchildren, Porter and Adele Newman; a sister, Bernice Acord of Bolt, and her special friend Jane Wickline of Daniels, W.Va.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Cross Pointe Church of God on Monday, June 24, 2013, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Vondie Cook officiating. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum in Beckley.

Friends may visit with the family at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home in Beckley from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, and also at the church one hour prior to the services on Monday.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
