Rose Ternes, 98, passed away April 4, 2011, at a Bismarck care center. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 8, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Patrick Schumacher as celebrant. Cremation will follow the service and inurnment will be held at Holy Trinity Cemetery, Krassna, near Strasburg,

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, with a Catholic Daughters and Christian Mothers rosary at 5:30 p.m., followed by a parish vigil at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before the service at the church on Friday.

Rose was born April 25, 1912, in Timmer, the daughter of Thomas Barth and Audenia (Schmidt) Barth. She was united in marriage to Nicklaus Ternes on Sept. 29, 1931, at Fallon. They lived on a farm near Strasburg, where Rose raised her family after Nick's death in 1948.

Rose was a lifetime member of the Catholic Aid Society and was also a member of Catholic Daughters for many years.

She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She had many talents and interests, which included crocheting, sewing, cooking and baking. Everyone especially loved her wonderful pies! She also loved to watch any type of sports event on TV and loved the EWTN channel.

Rose is survived by four sons and three daughters-in-law, Albert (Alvina) and Leo (Julie), both of Bismarck, and William and Richard (Marilyn), both of Arizona; five daughters and three sons-in-law, Lorraine Bossert, Mandan, and Lillian Volk, Jeanie (Reiny) Kellar, Kathy (Al) Nagel and Margaret (LeRoy) Mertz, all of Bismarck; 30 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Cecilia Barth, Los Angeles; and one sister-in-law, Kathryn Ternes, Bismarck.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Nicklaus; her daughter, Ivy Jarnagin; three sons-in-law, Edward Bossert, James Volk and Gaylord Jarnagin; one grandchild, James Volk Jr.; and 20 brothers and sisters.
